Cough and runny nose put you out of action? Chicken soup can do wonders when you have a cold. In addition to having an extremely good taste, it also has an anti-inflammatory effect. With its ingredients, it has a positive effect on various processes in the body and thus promotes health.
Chicken soup for colds has an anti-inflammatory effect
The ingredients of freshly cooked chicken soup can be used to fight upper respiratory tract infections. Scientists from the University of Nebraska, USA, discovered that the ingredients in the meal inhibit white blood cells (neutrophils), which are crucial for cold processes and inflammation. White blood cells migrate to the mucous membranes in the upper respiratory tract during an infection (flu-like).
By eating chicken soup when you have a cold, you cause the nasal mucosa to become decongested. In addition, a healthy soup provides the body with liquid and important substances such as vitamins, zinc and iron, with which you strengthen the immune system and heal faster. Feel free to grab a hot plate of chicken soup and inhale the smoke. In this way, you can clear your nose of mucus and breathe more freely again.

Just make yourself a healthy chicken soup against cold symptoms.
- 1 chicken for soup (about 2 to 2.5 kilograms)
- 1 bunch of greens for soup with parsley
- 1 onion
- 1 to 2 bay leaves
- 3 medium carrots
- Soup with noodles or rice
- Salt and pepper
- freeze peas, broccoli or asparagus if desired
Clean the chicken by removing the fins, tail oil glands and other inedible parts. If you don’t, the chicken soup could go rancid.
- Boil salted water in a large pot.
- Place the chicken in the pot with the giblets. It should be completely covered with water.
- Close the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for two hours.
- Skim off the foam from time to time so that the soup is not cloudy.
- Now clean the greens for the soup and cut them into one centimeter cubes. Cut the onion in half.
- Remove the chicken from the broth as soon as the meat is cooked.
Tip: If the legs separate from the chicken, the meat is done.
- Now put the vegetables in the pot with the pepper, halved onions with their skins, parsley stalks and bay leaves.
- Now let everything simmer for a few minutes on low heat until the vegetables are done. Do not close the lid all the way so that steam does not collect in the pot.
- Separate the chicken meat from the bones. Cut it into bite-sized pieces.
- Pour the soup through a thick strainer, then take care of the side dish.
- Peel and chop the carrots and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, the pasta for the last 3 minutes. Now add the frozen peas and season with salt and pepper.
